What is nicolasix.com?

This is my personal blog. It’s where I post stories and thoughts and, increasingly, a bit of fiction. I am either a real person, or a made-up character. Either way, I’m the subject of this blog.

Can you tell me any more about you?

Of course. I’m David, but I sometimes go by “rothko.” I write and take photos. And develop web for money. Without music, I would cry a lot. I read books far less than I used to, and I blame that on these here Internets. This site is named after a female fictional character. I am not female, but I am sometimes fictional. I believe grits and coffee are divine gifts from God. I sometimes wish I had a sandbox to play in. I’m a fan of these three letters: IPA. (In that order.) Some have suggested that these three letters best describe me: OCD. Driving makes me angry. I’m married to somebody who believes in me. I’m lucky that she’s delusional.

Why “nicolasix?”

Nicola Six is the heroine of one of my favorite novels: London Fields, by Martin Amis. Why did I name my blog after a fictional female character? I don’t know. I really don’t. All I can say is that I happened to be reading this book for the second time while I was creating this blog. And it just seemed like a cool url. I’m sure you could probably find some sort of psychological sub-text to the decision. And you might be on to something. Or it might just be the first name that came to mind and that’s it.

Mr. Amis … if you find this blog one day … I hope you don’t mind. And as long as you’re here, I just need to say … thank you so much for your writing.

Do you have other Web sites?

Yes. I have a tumblr blog where I post things I find wonderful or interesting … or both … or neither. It’s just a place to document the things I come across. I don’t post these things here because this ain’t that kind of blog. Oh, and you can also find me on Twitter.
